Happy Lunar New Year from Dim Sum Palace

Hey everyone, happy lunar new year of the dog! At this special time, we'd like you to join us celebrating it with traditional Chinese brunch from Dim Sum Place, a Chinese restaurant in NYC.

Dont be worried if you know nothing about Dim Sum. Dim sum /ˈdimˈsʌm/ (Chinese點心pinyindiǎnxīnCantonese Yaledímsām) is a style of Chinese cuisine prepared as small bite-sized portions of food served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. Dim sum dishes are usually served with tea and together form a full tea brunch. Dim sum traditionally are served as fully cooked, ready-to-serve dishes.

Dim Sum Palace is located at 334 W 46th St, New York, NY 10036. It has a great location since it’s next to the Time Square.

Now let’s talk about the top dishes I highly recommended you to try in Dim Sum Palace.

1. Steamed Spare Ribs w/ Olive Sause

Chopped up pork ribs cooked in a black bean sauce with a tiny bit of mild chili’s. This dish is a little greasy but is good for people that like pork. You can order a bowl of rice to fully appreciate this dish.

2. Shu Mai

Its filling consists primarily of ground pork, small whole or chopped shrimp, Chinese black mushroom, green onion (also called scallion) and ginger with seasonings of Chinese rice wine e.g. Shaoxing rice wine, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chicken stock. Bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and pepper can also be added. The outer covering is made of a thin sheet of lye water dough. The center is usually garnished with an orange dot, made of crab roe or diced carrot.  The balance of all these ingredients are incredibly good.

3. Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow)

The most popular dim sum dish. Almost every table orders this dish. Little balls of shrimp are formed with chopped bamboo shoots, and wrapped in a thin rice flour based wrapper, and then steamed. You’ll be impressed by the juicy, tasty of every single bite of shrimp dumpling.

4. Chicken Feet

Translated from Chinese to English as phoenix claw, it shows that the Chinese are into head to toe eating. The marinated and steamed cartilage is more soft, chewy, and salty than anything else. You won’t regret to give it a shot.

5. Steamed BBQ Pork Buns (char siu bao)

These are staple of dim sum. Steamed bun surrounds a filling full of chopped Chinese style barbecue of roast pork. You will embrace it if you like something sweet.

6. Turnip cake

Turnip cake is made of shredded radish (typically Chinese radish) and plain rice flour. It is commonly served in Cantonese yum cha and is usually cut into rectangular slices and sometimes pan-frying before serving. Each pan-fried cake has a thin crunchy layer on the outside from frying, and is soft on the inside. The non-fried version is soft all over.

In summary, Dim Sum Palace is a great palace featured with traditional Dim Sum. The quality of all dishes is good with moderate price.
